Investigation of Storm Tides Induced by Super Typhoon in Macro-Tidal Hangzhou Bay
نویسندگان
چکیده
Typhoon-induced storm tides can cause serious coastal disasters and considerable economic losses. Understanding the mechanisms controlling surges helps prevention of disasters. Hangzhou Bay (HZB), a typical macro-tidal estuary, is located on east coast China, where typhoons frequently occur. The funnel-shaped topography makes this bay even more sensitive to tides. Super Typhoon Chan-hom was used as an example study characteristics dynamic using well-validated numerical model. model considers two-way coupling waves wind strength for reconstructed multi-source data refined by considering different rotating moving fields. Holland–Miyazaki reconstruct local wind-field with good performance. results show that total water level HZB during typhoon mainly dominated tides, surge closely related field. Surface flow mostly influenced winds, followed spatial temporal distributions significant wave height were controlled terrain. Wind stress largest contributor (91%), pressure effect (15%) (5%). Both wave-induced occurred low slack waters. tide-surge interaction changes (enhance or suppress) approximately 0.5 m typhoon, comprising 50% surge. Tides interacted through various mechanisms, from mouth (local acceleration friction) head (friction advection). Coriolis force had relatively minor effect. findings provide useful information studies sediment dynamics structures under extreme weather conditions.

Temporal and spatial distribution pattern of Bullacta exarata in a tidal flat at south shore of Hangzhou Bay, China
The distribution pattern of Bullacta exarata was studied in different seasons of 2004 at south shore of Hangzhou Bay, China. We found that the distribution pattern of B. exarata was aggregated in each season by Taylor's power regression and Iwao's plot regresses methods (P < 0.001). Based on two-way ANOVA analysis, the results indicated that the densities were significantly affected by the fact...

متن کاملLocal amplification of storm surge by Super Typhoon Haiyan in Leyte Gulf
Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines in November 2013, was an extremely intense tropical cyclone that had a catastrophic impact. The minimum central pressure of Typhoon Haiyan was 895 hPa, making it the strongest typhoon to make landfall on a major island in the western North Pacific Ocean. The characteristics of Typhoon Haiyan and its related storm surge are estimated by numerical expe...
